My Goal

Everything written here is tentative at all times.

ASK YOURSELF: what is the lesson of this minute/hour/day/week/month?

TELL YOURESLF: you’re not missing anything; you are on the right track and gathering it well and so just behave and take the action.

I anyway cannot be doing what I have to do every single minute. Do not stress over wasting time. Just be mindful of being better and doing what is good for me; instead of staying on Youtube, read books or any other article which can be helpful in any way. What matters the most at the end of the day is to be fully conscious of what is going on with myself and weed out all these unnecessary concerns that eat up my energy and time as soon as possible without procrastinating. Otherwise, I will just spend my brain and the like onto them, which is never productive. (You know what is unncessary and necessary; what is necessary does not only mean something important at the moment. So, do not feel too obsessed over getting things done on the spot. Take a break, and do some other necessary things and get back to it. Do not sweat over THE things in front of you while not really doing anything about it.)

Studying each subject does not need to be “linear.” Depending on the situations and progress and my feelings and so forth, any subject can be studied. Still, poking around subjects must be avoided.

Goals

For 2025-2026Spring (Till the second year of PhD, focus only on laying all the foundations for probability, statistics, and optimization. Do more than these subjects only after laying “enough” foundations for them. Then, study econometrics and sociology and the like) This is my occupation. My life has to revolve around it. Further, this is the only period of time of my life to really study.

Current Study (to do everyday for the summer break, 2 hour for each)
  • Introduction to Probabillity -> Casella and Berger
  • Linear Algebra (Rao) -> Linear Optimization
  • Analysis Tao -> Carothers (-> Rosenthal -> Capinski + Axler)
Learn
  • Filtering
  • Stochastic Calculus
  • Research papers
  • Ableton Tutorial

Additional (This is a list of things to be all done by the end of the second year, maybe including the summer break. The core things to study are above and this list can be a “reference” to pick up as a “hobby.” I know how my life should become and that is what “hobby” stands for.)
  • Stochastic Process – Parzen and Queueing Theory textbook (start by July)
  • Probability Theory (Rosenthal -> Capinski + Axler -> Durrett/Breiman)
  • Stochastic Calculus, Brownian Motion
  • Basics
    • to be done by the end of Jan 2026
      • Calculus (Hubbard and Hubbard)
      • ODE
    • Regression (Dobson and Barnett -> Rencher) after mathematical statistics
    • Rust -> CS125 -> CS224
  • Music Theory
  • Stop
    • Meaningless Youtube Addiction

For now, studying multivariate calculus and matrix calculus can be deferred until everything is really clear and important topics are studied (mostly undergraudate analysis, probabiliy and statistics with two qualifying exam subjects)

For my PhD years (among those below for my life):

  • Finance (mainly stock)
    • Technical analysis
    • Fundamental analysis
  • Language (get on the intermediate levels)
    • French
    • Greek
  • Music (become an amateur)
    • Composition
    • Electric Guitar

For my life:

  • Economics
    • Finance
      (Start with the basic textbook, read it when feeling frustrated and needing refreshment)
    • Macroeconomics
    • Econometrics
  • Languages
    • Japanese
    • French (In Search of Lost Time)
    • German (Demian)
    • Greek (Greek the Zorba)
  • Sociology (to be specified)

I do not want to be someone that brags about becoming something better and then end up doing nothing.

Have a reflection on each week/each month, starting from March 16th, 2025. (It has failed – May 3rd, 2025)
